The Reading Habits Tag!

I did the Reading Habits Tag because apparently I just can’t resist the opportunity to talk about myself on camera! Do I even know what a bookmark is? How many books can I juggle at once? And how good am I at breaking spines? All is revealed in today’s exciting episode!

But in case you don’t have time for me or my llama bookends, here are my answers in a bit more of a truncated form:

1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

Yes and no? Not on purpose, I mean. I would love a book nook or something of that nature one day, but for now, the left side of my futon (the side closest to the outlet and the side table and the lamp) will have to suffice.

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Random piece of paper all the way. I will literally use whatever I can find as a bookmark. Usually a library receipt or a sticky note. My good bookmarks are either scattered to the four winds or they’re just too darn pretty to use. Ironic, isn’t it?

3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?

I really prefer to finish the chapter I’m on, but if I don’t have the time or the chapter is just too darn long, I will either find the nearest section break or to the top of the next page. It feels weird to stop in the middle of a sentence. I don’t like it!

4. Do you eat or drink while reading?

I cannot munch away whilst reading for fear of dirtying the book (doubly important since most of the books I read are library books) but I will often partake in a beverage of some kind. Coffee, tea, wine, beer… you name it. It’s not a necessity, but it’s a nice touch.

5. Multitasking: music or TV while reading?

TV, no way! I’ll get way too distracted. But music? Sure. Sometimes music with lyrics, but more often than not, classical or lo-fi hip hop. So chill, man!

6. One book at a time or several at once?

HA. I wish I could juggle tons of books at once. Or just stick to one at a time. Instead, I tend to fall into a sort of limbo where I read 2-3 books at a time but really only one of them gets read within a reasonable time frame. Usually the one I’m the most into. Go figure.

7. Reading at home or everywhere?

Gee, now that I can’t read everywhere, I sure wish I took advantage of the opportunity more often! I’m not a read-while-standing-in-line kind of person, but I did like reading at the library from time to time. Mostly, though, I tend to read at home… even pre-quarantine.

8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?

Silently in my head, of course! Though I wouldn’t be opposed to a read-aloud type situation as long as I was reading to someone. Apparently I just love the sound of my own voice. Heh, heh.

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

I am that girl who will skim through the book (or even skip to the end *gasp* sacrilege!) to see if the things I want to happen happen, particularly if there’s romance afoot and especially when the pacing of the book is slow. It’s such a bad habit and I’m trying to get better about it! When I do give in, one of two outcomes occurs: either I have to keep reading to get to that part or it’s spoiled for me and I DNF. For shame, for shame!

10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

Gah, this is a hard one. As much as I love that newly minted book aesthetic, I tend to buy my books used to sidestep the pressure of keeping them looking like new. Books are meant to be used, but when they’re new they’re almost too pretty! Don’t make me break the spine myself. I want it pre-broken!

11. Do you write in your books?

Not all the time, but I will annotate if I’m reading something for a video or a review. I don’t tend to write in the books, especially since most things I read are borrowed. I am a sticky-note fiend, though. I sticky-note books more now than I ever did in college. Word to the wise: annotate your textbooks, kids!

That’s it! I’m not sure if this is the kind of tag where I’m supposed to tag others specifically, but if you’re interested, I tag YOU! This is the kind of tag that one could do on either a blog or a YouTube channel (¿o porque no las dos?) so that makes it pretty inclusive. If you do decided to do this tag, tell me! I’d love to read/watch it!
